Roger Jackson laying out classical molding enrichments on floor.

In this course our chapter president Roger Jackson will introduce you to the treatises of classicism ranging from the wisdom of the ancient Vitruvius, to Renaissance treatises, and post-Renaissance treatises. You will see pattern books, and writings ranging from ancient to modern. The discussion will center on history of these works, their influence on one another and how they have shaped architectural history, the buildings around us, and the profession as a whole. We’ll briefly discuss the modernist writings and manifestos. We’ll discuss the practical application of the treatises to classist work today, and how these treatises influence our work. This course will me practical rather than theoretical or philosophical. We’ll end with a discussion with the secret essential books every classicist should have and use.

This event is FREE!

This course will provide two hours of elective AIA continuing education credit and two hours towards the “Literature of Classicism” requirement for the ICAA Certificate of Classical Design.  Participants desiring AIA and/or ICAA credit must fill out the attendance list. On-line participants must provide name, email address, and AIA number either in the chat or to jack.james@classicistutah.org to receive credit.
